Dr. Steven Katz

Learning is a permanent change

Accommodation (change thinking based on new evidence) vs. Assimilation (incorporate new evidence into current ways of thinking)

Barriers to Learning

  • Cognitive Bias – quick decisions ensure survival
  • Confirmation Bias – we look to confirm not challenge what we believe
  • Vividness Bias – overemphasizing the likeliness of something
  • Illusory Superiority – “This sounds like others, but not me … I don’t need to know”
  • Omission Bias – Better the devil you know than the devil you don’t
